Peyton Place TV Series

Nominated for three Golden Globes and three Emmy Awards, the Peyton Place TV series is said to have helped launch the careers of stars Mia Farrow and Ryan O'Neal.

Based on the Grace Metalious novel, and set in the small New England town of Peyton Place, the TV series centers on the secrets and scandals of the town's inhabitants. While the core characters from the movies also feature in the TV series, it is not a clean continuation of the storyline. The TV series is more focused on the Harrington family, and there is some cross-over in timing and character roles. For example, in the movie Rodney Harrington goes off to war and is killed in action, but in the TV series he is alive and well. Also, in the movie, Michael Rossi arrives in town and becomes the school principal, but in the TV series he arrives in town for the first time, looking to set up practice as a doctor.

Premiering in the fall of 1964, a total of 514 episodes were aired between September 1964 and June 1969.

The series initally aired in two serialized installments each week, a first for American prime-time television. It has been said that Peyton Place was the precursor to more modern shows such as Melrose Place and Desperate Housewives, as it drew a lot of attention for the open portrayal of various moral issues.

Now available on DVD

The Peyton Place TV series has been released on DVD for the first time. Part One was released on May 19, 2009 and Part Two followed on July 14, 2009.
